Since its founding in 1948, Nottingham Playhouse has been among the top performing arts venues in the United Kingdom. The Playhouse is firmly rooted in its vibrant home city, where the expansive modernist building serves as host to gritty dramas, small intricate plays, comedy shows and choir performances, not to mention the all-singing, all-dancing big production numbers like pantomimes and musicals. There is literally entertainment for everyone.

The well-renowned Playhouse Pantomime this year is Dick Whittington which promises to be as sparkling and exciting as ever. Full of fun, singing, and lots of action; packed with dazzling dance and brilliant live band; swashbuckling adventure!

It may come as no surprise then that Nottingham Playhouse, with their Dick Whittington bus advertising campaign, has won our Campaign of the Month.

For more than 20 years, our Sales and Commercial Director Mike Terry has consistently worked with Nottingham Playhouse. They have placed advertisements on various bus and tram routes with Nottingham City transport and Nottingham Express Tram, travelling through the heart of Nottingham’s city centre and surrounding areas.

Vanessa Walters at Nottingham Playhouse told us: “We’re thrilled to have won Campaign of the Month for Dick Whittington. Christmas in our brilliant city wouldn’t be the same without the legendary Nottingham Playhouse pantomime. Our outdoor campaign builds up the excitement for our audiences and is as much a part of the festivities as panto itself!”

Nottingham Playhouse has chosen a variety of panel types over the years, including Double and Single-Deck Mega Rears, T-sides, Streetliners and Super Rears on Nottingham City Transport and Super Square panels on Nottingham Trams, with the addition of 6-sheet posters (pictured below) at key tram stops, allowing them to showcase their brand and target mass audiences throughout Nottingham.

Mike Terry, our Sales and Commercial Director, said: “It’s wonderful to have a long-standing client such as Nottingham Playhouse win Campaign of the Month; not least that this is the first proper Panto campaign that has featured with us since the pandemic struck. I love the colourful, fun artwork which makes you really want to get into the festive spirit and it can be seen across both the NCT bus and NET tram network.”

As a registered charity, Nottingham Playhouse works to provide all members of the community with memorable and life-changing experiences, whether through first-rate productions, encouraging artist development, or extensive participation programmes like workshops, community groups, and classes.

None of this vital work would be possible without the help of their regular supporters and sponsors, as well as the generous donations they receive from their audiences.

There are a number of ways to support Nottingham Playhouse, whether you want to support one of their youth theatres in a disadvantaged area, help them to combat the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, or provide a theatre ticket for someone who wouldn’t otherwise be able to experience live theatre.

With the cost of living on the rise, barriers to funding and attending the theatre are increasing and times remain tough for many people in our community. Yet, it is clear that music, theatre, dance, writing (and more) all make a positive difference to improve mental health and reduce loneliness which was never more needed.

Curtain Up

Donations to the Curtain Up appeal are vital; funds will help Nottingham Playhouse Trust match the increased demand for community groups and artist development, and support their vast programme of outreach work including 57 community participation programmes.

They kindly ask for donations from £1 to £100 for their Curtain Up appeal which will make a massive difference to those who access groups, shows and educational programmes by keeping their local theatre alive.

Open House Appeal

Open House is Nottingham Playhouse’s new community fundraising appeal; raising money to give free cultural experiences to disadvantaged people living in Nottinghamshire.

Nottingham Playhouse Trust has provided over 8,500 free tickets to local people via community groups and charities since 2016! Last year alone, nearly 2,200 people benefitted from their ‘Pay What You Can’ nights and 160 people were given free bursary places to their workshops or courses, valued at £13,000.

Following the pandemic and in light of the cost of living crisis, sadly the demand for free tickets and bursary places is growing. The arts are never more needed to lift spirits and provide a sense of escapism, that’s why they need your donations to fund Open House this winter.

This year, Nottingham Playhouse is taking part in The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge to launch its Open House appeal. The Big Give is a match-funding scheme, meaning anything you give during the campaign week (29 November – 6 December) will be doubled.

Get involved at Nottingham Playhouse behind the scenes or on stage; whatever your age, experience and interests, you can find creative classes, courses, drop-in sessions and many other opportunities to get involved, including Youth pass membership and Encore for over 50’s. These take place in the theatre or locations around the city and county. Some sessions are free and others are charged, but all programmes have bursary places available for those who require additional support.

Access

Nottingham Playhouse welcomes people with disabilities and strives to make access as simple as possible by offering a variety of options and accessible performances.

The main stage at Nottingham Playhouse caters for BSL-interpreted, captioned, and audio-described performances as well as dementia-friendly performances and easy access for wheelchair users and those who require level access.
