Derby County admitted they do not often have to advertise. However, having sold over 24,000 season tickets in their 33,000 capacity stadium before the season started, they ran a large advertising campaign through December 2015 and over Christmas and New Year. The aim of this advertising campaign was to turn the county black and white.
Bus Adverts Form Part of Marketing Strategy for Derby County
The football club is one of the favourites to be promoted to the Premier League this season. This prompted them to put together a marketing campaign to drive up the hype and garner as much support as possible from the local areas. They opted to take 30 rear bus adverts with us to travel all over Derbyshire as part of their advertising portfolio. Their overall marketing campaign included a very controversial advertisement banner being taken down at East Midland Airport that made headlines with the local BBC news.
Their bus adverts have generated a lot of talk on social media with some people even taking photos of the adverts and tagging in their friends and Derby County themselves! This has helped to amplify their presence and the campaign itself. During the middle of the advertising campaign, their Championship game on Boxing Day against Fulham was a sell-out and helped by a 2-0 home win.
The bus advert design is simple but effective, featuring regular first team midfielder George Thorne, and compliment their other advertising medias that are running simultaneously with similar motivational wording but alternate players.
Rear bus adverts are the most predominant external site and appeal largely to drivers and their passengers. This panel type offers extended dwell time, allowing contact information and the brand message to be noted. Rear campaigns offer the largest geographical footprint.
